NEWSMar 31, 2010![]() I have been busy making music this spring, concentrating predominately on looping samples from ethnomusicological folk field recordings, especially recorded between 1950 - 1975. All of these recordings exist as vinyl LPs on my shelf, which for this project, tentatively titled imMEDIAte, is a rule. In correlation with this endeavor, I have launched a blog that will house my experiments, as well as my amazing source materialhere. This type of music, as well as ambient and noise will be released under the moniker 'yantra', which is a visual meditation device much as mantra is an auditory one. If you happen to exist in Los Angeles, please come out and partake in the music. I will be playing two dates there as follows: Apr 19, 2010, Echo Curio Apr 23, 2010, Calling All Kids, Hyperion Tavern Enjoy these very rough samples of what yantra can sound like: Mar 1, 2010![]() The long Berlin winter and slow birth into spring does funny things to me. Namely, it coerced me into making WAY more chop and screw music than I ever intended to. My favorite band in high school was Radiohead, and I revisit their influence here, in radioSCREWED. Radiohead in slo-mo produces an artifact more ghostly (and perhaps darker) than the original, though their beats become crisper, like ice on stairs. Tracklist: 1. kid a 2. packt like sardines in a crusht tin box 3. high and dry 4. lurgee 5. all i need 6. idiotheque 7. paperbag writer 8. where i end and you begin 9. exit music (for a film) 10. videotape Feb 18, 2010![]() Some things happen mysteriously and accidentally, like this fantastic, slo-mo dub mix I just finished. Screwed dub promises to delight you on repeat like it has me. Also, if you're in the states during the month of April, look for me to be playing in your area (especially if you live in either California or the New York area), but as Paul Diddy, with looping samples and merriment. Dec 20, 2009![]() I've been working on this dj ALLCAPS mix on and off for the last month or so, and I think it's at a point (convenient for the holidays, no?) that it can hit your ears. dj ALLCAPS (aka paul diddy) drops the fat chop and screwed mashups using old school, indie pop and contemporary hip hop samples. SLAKROC is for slackers, and relaxed backpackers. dirrrrrrty! Slakroc is a take on the mostly awful but oh so promising 'BLAKROC' project that features the Black Keys with various rappers. Click on the cover above to download, or listen from my audio section, where it is listed under dj tonight.. Dec 02, 2009![]() Check out an interview with me up at Green Owl Records, a conversation between Wills Glasspiegel and myself that occurred in July. Nov 06, 2009It's amazing what a google search of your own name can bring. Impose Magazine, which is worth digging around as their site is beautiful, features my recent EP The New Electric here. Nov 01, 2009![]() I became interested in the idea of the Solfeggio Frequencies about a year ago, and finally made something with them. This music is probably best to listen to with deep bass and in a meditative state. As an ambient artist, my name is 'yantra'. Check out the record hridayam here. Oct 21, 2009![]() From time to time I drop a new episode of my radio show Star Child onto dublab, an amazingly positive audio resource transmitting from Silverlake in Los Angeles. My latest is entitled 'hip hope', and can be streamed from their site. Support them with a Proton Grant if you can. Sept 15, 2009![]() Jesi Khadivi and I were interviewed in Whitehot Magazine by Travis Jeppesen about founding golden PARACHUTES and the state of art in Berlin and in general. July 21, 2009I reluctantly posted this video that i painstakingly made, as by the time I finished making it I didn't think it was funny anymore. But a lot of other people seem to have. And now I agree with them. The song is just totally an 'ohrwurm'. Thanks to Das Racist and Wallpaper. July 04, 2009![]() My first solo show, spectral alphabet was on view at golden PARACHUTES during the month of July. Though the show is down, you may still view press releases and images at the new golden PARACHUTES site. Jan 15, 2009![]() Sometimes I'm just flattered. The Acme Siren named Elaborate #6 in their 10 best free records of 2008. Definitely grab a free copy by clicking on the album name. Nov 03, 2008![]() Leah Demo met me in Los Angeles when my patio was my studio. Those were the days. Sigh. The article can be found here. |
